Susan Scotto

Susan Scotto is the third-grade teacher at Notre Dame Academy. She has been an educator for over 20 years with a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Staten Island. She continued her education at Saint John’s University with a concentration as a reading specialist. She continues to learn and grow within her profession by regularly attending workshops on topics such as STEM, literacy and the Responsive Classroom.

Mrs. Scotto believes each student acquires knowledge at her own pace and through different styles of learning. This is evident in the individualized attention she gives each student. In her classroom, students benefit from the integration of technology by using iPads to practice reading comprehension skills and to investigate math problem-solving strategies. Spheros, robotic toys which use digital apps, are used for programming and coding to enhance critical and higher order thinking skills. As an avid reader, Mrs. Scotto shares her love of literature by reading with and to her students frequently. She is the moderator of the book club for grades 3-5.

Mrs. Scotto has been on the staff at Notre Dame Academy for over 10 years but was not new to the Notre Dame community when she was hired. Her two daughters are alumnae of the Academy. She and her husband were parents at NDA for 18 years and witnessed first-hand the transformative education Notre Dame Academy affords each student.

Mrs. Scotto is proud to be a part of the Notre Dame tradition of liberating education for girls and young women.
