I have had a lifelong love of art. I began drawing and painting while in elementary school and have not stopped since!
I studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, where I received a BFA in Illustration. There I was taught by some of the top people in their field. While I had some paintings in a school show, the art director of New York Magazine saw my work and hired me to do a painting that appeared on their cover. I received my MA in art education from Brooklyn College. I taught nursery school art, and middle school art before coming to Notre Dame Academy in 1999.
I have the most wonderful and fulfilling job ever, I love what I do! It is most important to me that children love art. I teach them to explore their own creativity, enjoy what they do while learning important skills that will help them achieve their best. We have an art show each year where everyone's work is represented.
Each year, the art room is turned into a book store! Scholastic Books brings in hundreds of books and merchandise. The children can buy new books for themselves and other family members. They learn to budget their money and pick up new books. Parents are invited to shop with their children as well.
The children work on their art all year long in preparation for our annual art show. Each spring we gather their work for display. They are matted and framed, and all are invited to see! The children are all so very proud of their work, it is an enjoyable evening for all.
